Project 1 - Form and Function

The purpose of the project is to incorporate a function to an existing design. After researching and examining the components of bridges, as well as the movement of household objects, we had to develop an existing bridge to allow a large ship to pass through. This project will help us develop to an existing design for a function, while being able to maintain the integrity of the original design.

The criteria of this project is to develop a bridge to span across a 190 foot river with 10' of clearance above the water. The bridge must incorporate the movement from everyday objects and can not be taller than 100 feet. The bridge must maintain the integrity of the original design but fulfill the desired function. The opening of the bridge must allow a ship 30' wide by 40' tall to pass through. No piles or structure of any type may touch the water.
